Marching Orders

I have my marching orders. Shelley has booked us into Penang, Georgetown in particular. Here is some info on where we are going.

Georgetown is the capital of the island and state of Penang, on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia. It was listed by UNESCO in 2008 as a World Heritage Site, together with fellow former Straits Settlement, Melaka

Founded in 1786 by British trader Francis Light, Georgetown was one of the three Straits Settlements along with Malacca and Singapore. Modern-day Georgetown is one of Malaysia's largest cities with 600,000 inhabitants.

I have always had an interest in the British Empire as my Mother is English and her father was the captain of a sailing vessel at the turn of the previous century. I will have fun exploring Georgetown, the architecture, and the museums. Apparently there is a nice beach nearby called Ferrengi beach which sounds like something out of Star Trek, the Next generation.

Shelley was keen on getting away as my birthday is September the 23rd and she wanted to celebrate.
