TORF

This little adventure of ours (Shelley and Jim) starts at TORF. TORF stands for Teaching Overseas Recruiting Fair and happens in annually in February at the Queens University Faculty of Education. It's basically a place for international school administrators and aspiring overseas teachers to get together.

My first observation was the administrators are mostly old and the teachers are mostly young Of course Shelley and I were the exception and no, we are not young administrators. The ratio of administrators to teachers was about 100 to 350.

The fair lasted Friday - Sunday and Shelley and I had a job offer that seemed like a good fit by Saturday morning. We did not accept the offer until Sunday morning as we had to check with our kids (Jaime - 22 and Jordan - 19) to make sure they were okay with Mom and Dad abandoning them. They have both been away to university for 5 and 2 years so it was a moot point and they rejoiced at having the opportunity to visit Asia next Christmas break.

We are going to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to teach Computer Science and Social Science. We leave behind very good jobs at the Ottawa Catholic School Board (Coordinator of Learning Technologies (Jim) and Arts Consultant (Shelley). We have always embraced change and have only regretted the things we haven't done, not the things we have!
